For one more day by Mitch Albom (paperback) SGD 8.00

This is a story that is both heart-wrenching and heart-warming. Heart-wrenching in its depiction of the sacrifices of a mother for her family, and of the seemingly pre-ordained poor choices made by the main character, Chick Benetto. Seemingly pre-ordained, because the tragic influence of his father guides Chick throughout life, even in his father's absence. Albom invites the reader to consider the possiblity of one more day with a loved one who has passed, at the same time posing the challenge of how that would change the course of a person's life. With his characteristic poignancy, Albom weaves a tale that draws the reader into the story and simultaneously enables one to find one's own place in the greater story of our own lives. It is a quick read, taking only a few hours from start to finish. But the lessons given may take a lifetime to fully understand and process.
